An unbelievable find! All original, low mile, rust-free, time warp, museum-quality, iconic 1988 Lada Niva here in the US! This Niva was gifted by the original owner to a military general. He stored the Niva in a heated garage in the suburbs of Moscow, rarely driving it and only taking it out on the road in favorable conditions. Our team of Russian car-hunters heard rumors of this car and were able to locate it. We were extremely fortunate to be able to purchase it to bring to the United States.

MODEL SPOTLIGHT:
The Lada Niva is a legendary vehicle with a strong following the world over. The Niva was developed to have the speed of a Lada combined with the capability of a UAZ469, capable of handling the harshest terrain and conditions of the Soviet Union. It accomplishes this thanks to a simple yet rugged 1.6L overhead cam 4 cylinder engine, a permanent 4-Wheel-Drive system with high/low ranges & locking differential, tall, narrow tires & wheels, and its famous, fully independent front suspension. It is the first unibody SUV ever produced. It is the only Soviet vehicle ever to be imported to Japan, directly inspiring the Suzuki Samurai. It has fulfilled nearly every imaginable role: from a civilian car to an ambulance, a fire truck, an army vehicle, a tractor. It is the first wheeled vehicle to spend more than 10 years in the antarctic and has climbed to Mt. Everest base camps.

CONDITION:
It is near impossible to find any classic, Soviet-era Niva in this condition. This is an all-original, rust-free Niva. The body is completely straight, with uniform panel gaps all around. There is no rust or deformation in any of the typical problem areas - rocker panels, rain channels, lower quarter panel, lower doors, lower fenders, and wheels wells are straight and completely rust free; just as it left the factory. All rubber seals are complete and in fantastic condition, including window & door seals and bumper caps. All exterior trim, including badges, grille, bumpers, mirrors, and door handles are free of any damage. Wheels and tires are original and in incredible condition, with no rust or dry rot. Developed specifically for the Niva, these off-road biased tires have deep, uniform, crisp tread all around.

Under the hood, you find a meticulously clean engine bay. There is no underhood rust! Plastic reservoirs are clean and clear. Original wiring, including the ignition system, is clean, intact, and pliable. The spare tire, located underhood, is completely clean and never mounted onto the car. The cooling fan and shroud are in factory original condition. There is no seepage or leaks from the gaskets. Even the original stickers are present underhood. The rust-free condition is even more impressive given that this Niva was never undercoated, allowing you to see the all-original unibody, rockers, exhaust, and suspension components. All are in solid, rust-free condition and operate beautifully.

The interior is in almost new condition! The dashboard has no cracks and the door panels are clean and straight. The headliner is free of any imperfection and all passenger grab bars and clothes hooks are like-new. The seats are free of stains or tears and the rubber mats are clean without tears. Seat belts are present and are free from any tears or stains. All knobs and gauges are in like-new condition. There are no cracks in the steering wheel rim and the detailed horn button is clean and free of damage.

We strongly encourage you to review the detailed photographs and videos, which include underbody and driving overviews.

DRIVING IMPRESSIONS:
This Niva challenges all reasonable expectations, driving like a new vehicle - a claim that few (if any) other 32-year-old Nivas could make.

The engine starts immediately, even when cold, and settles into a smooth idle. The engine revs freely throughout its rev range and developing smooth power and torque with no dips or lagging. The clutch take-up is strong and the gears shift cleanly through all gears with a short throw and positive snick. Steering is tight and sharp, precisely guiding the Niva and allowing full use of the impressively tight turning circle. There are no sounds when steering at full lock in either direction. The Niva track straight and true both underway and during braking. Brakes are strong, progressive, and communicate well through the pedal. The suspension reacts immediately and is free of any slop or unwelcome sounds.

The cabin is impressively quiet, with no squeaks or rattles. The only sound is the engine and the characteristic sound of the Niva-specific off-road tires on the road. The transfer case is quiet, with no whine. Acceleration is spritely and, combined with the rest of the package, proves that a car doesn't need massive horsepower to be fun to drive!
